Growth Begins When You Embrace Change

Hi Reader,

One of the biggest lessons Jiu-Jitsu teaches us has nothing to do with submissions or sweeps.

It teaches us how to become comfortable with change.

Every time you step on the mat, you’re changing. You’re learning a new technique, fixing a bad habit, facing a training partner who gives you problems, or discovering that something you thought worked… doesn’t.

Growth requires change.

Sometimes that change is exciting, like earning your next stripe or belt. Other times, it’s uncomfortable. You have to let go of old habits, slow down to learn the fundamentals, or accept that making mistakes is part of improving.

The students who progress the fastest aren’t always the strongest or the most athletic.

They’re the ones who are willing to adapt.

They ask questions. They stay coachable. They keep showing up even when things don’t go their way.

The same is true outside the academy.

If you want better health, stronger relationships, more confidence, or greater success, something has to change. The good news is that change doesn’t have to happen all at once. It happens through small, consistent habits repeated over time.

This week, I want to challenge you to identify one habit you can improve.

Maybe it’s attending one extra class. Maybe it’s arriving 10 minutes early to warm up. Maybe it’s drilling after class. Or maybe it’s simply committing to not miss your scheduled training days.

Small changes, repeated consistently, create incredible results.

Embrace changes!

It’s the path to becoming a better martial artist and a better version of yourself.

I’ll see you on the mats.

Consistency is important, but consistency alone isn’t enough. Don’t just come to class. Come to get better. Every week ask yourself: Am I improving? Am I fixing my mistakes? Am I getting a little better each week? If the answer is yes, keep going. If not, change your approach. Show up. Learn. Improve. Repeat. See you on the mats! – JP Garcia P.S.
